It all started on a day in August 1984. The need for better instruments and service was becoming increasingly evident. As a performer and instructor, I frequently encountered challenges in obtaining quality equipment and professional service for instruments. So, one day in 1984, I registered Gema Percussion as a sales and service company.
In the beginning, most of the work focused on bands and schools, mainly dealing with drums. Over time, requests also came from professional performers with urgent needs for assistance. A small inventory of parts was established to help in the most critical situations. At the same time, I developed a sales network that served bands, schools, professional performers, and students. The import of mallets and other percussion equipment began shortly afterward, and Gema became a supplier of quality equipment throughout Norway.
An increasing interest in melodic percussion instruments and timpani led to courses and training within these areas. Engineering disciplines, such as physics and mathematics, became necessary to perform professional work with these instruments. Craft skills in woodwork, metal, and surface treatments became an essential part of the development before tuning melodic percussion was perfected.
Today, Gema Percussion is a specialized workshop for percussion instruments with expertise in drums, timpani, and melodic percussion. The sales side has been phased out, with the focus now on service, repair, and restoration.
As an authorized service center for Yamaha Europe, Wienerpauken, and Studio 49, among others, the workshop has gained strong recognition for its work. The major professional institutions regularly use the workshop, along with performers in well-known and unknown bands and ensembles.
Thank you for your trust over 40 years, and I look forward to further work to make percussion even better.
Best regards
